History Comes Alive at ALPLM!

This summer, embark on a captivating journey in Springfield, Illinois as you encounter Mr. & Mrs. Lincoln and an entire cast of characters as History Comes Alive returns for its 15th Season! 

The ALPLM is proud to be a community partner for this city-wide summer celebration of our Lincoln Legacy, Illinois history, and Kicks on Route 66 that happens FRIDAY, May 31 through Sunday, August 4. 

Here’s what's happening at the he ALPLM for History Comes Alive…

WEDNESDAYS

  • Lincoln Troubadours (Vocal A Cappella Group) 1:00 p.m. ALPLM Museum Plaza
  • Meet & Greet with Mr. Lincoln & General Grant 3:00 p.m. ALPLM Museum Plaza 
  • “Dynamic Duos: Lincoln & Grant" 3:30 p.m. ALPLM Library Lincoln Reception Room 
    • Get a glimpse inside these historical duos as we hear from the actors who spent their life studying them. Each presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes and will allow a brief time for Q&A.

THURSDAYS

  • Lincoln Troubadours (A Cappella Vocal Group) 1:00 p.m. ALPLM Museum Plaza
  • “A Springfield Farewell” 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. ALPLM Library Lincoln Reception Room
    • Spend some time with Abraham and Mary as they prepare to leave their home for an uncertain future in Washington. The Lincolns reflect on their years in Springfield, the family they have gained and lost along the way, and the looming dread of war on the horizon.

FRIDAYS

  • “A Day in the Life” Approximately 10:00 a.m. ALPLM Library Stevenson Room 
    • VisitSpringfieldIllinois.com will lead visitors on a walk around downtown Springfield and drop by the ALPLM for a short 10 to 15 minute visit with one of our library and museum professionals to learn more about we do to share the Lincoln Legacy and Illinois History with the World.
  • Meet & Greet with Mr. Lincoln & William Herndon 10:00 a.m. ALPLM Museum Plaza 
  • Lincoln Troubadours (Vocal A Cappella Group) 1:00pm-1:30pm ALPLM Museum Plaza 
  • Meet & Greet with Mary Lincoln & Elizabeth Keckley 2:30 p.m. ALPLM Museum Plaza 
  • "Dynamic Duos: Lincoln & Keckley" 3:30 p.m. ALPLM Library Lincoln Reception Room 
    • Get a glimpse inside these historical duos as we hear from the actors who spent their life studying them. Each presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes and will allow a brief time for Q&A.

SATURDAYS

  • Meet & Greet: Lincoln & his Bodyguard Ward Hall Lamon 12:00 p.m. ALPLM Plaza
  • Lincoln Troubadours (A Cappella Vocal Group) 1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. ALPLM Plaza

SPECIAL NOTES…

  • Due to June 19 & July 4 being state holidays, the LIBRARY will be closed, and the events scheduled to happen in the Lincoln Reception Room on those days will be postponed.  However, the MUSEUM will be open both days for History Comes Alive events.
  • Due to a previously scheduled program at ALPLM, the Lincoln Troubadours appearance on Thursday, July 11, has been postponed.
